I recently acted as the director and director of photography for a new video project for the ad agency White64. The idea for this project was to show some appreciation for the women who work at the advertising agency, White64. We wanted something gritty and in your face. Here we are, and we are here to stay. We took inspiration from the intro to Orange is the new black which was very tight detail shots of the actresses. I shot all the images at the white64 office, the same way I would shoot a gritty man, with harsh lighting that shows any and all details on the face.  Not the most flattering for a woman but this was meant to be moving and powerful and in your face. Here are a few images from the shoot. Each employee was asked to do certain emotions on command without thinking.  Remember, these aren’t actresses or models but just employees of White64. The edit was also completed by me.  The edit is cut to the beat which is also timed with the text. The text is quick so I added some slight drop shadows to help read the text more quickly.

Hi Key Portraits are some of my favorite.  I love shooting them in such a dramatic way especially with someone I can get some nice emotion out of.

If you haven’t checked out Kid Brother, do so now!  Really good band based in Washington DC. I got a chance to work with them and get some awesome pictures of them.  We shot this in my studio right outside Washington DC on one fall night. The band was really against pictures of them playing instruments but we wanted to somehow show which person plays which instrument.  We came up or compromised in doing individual portraits with their instruments on the ground beside them.  Below are some of those photos for each member of the band. We did do some group shots.  We wanted to do some sort of party photos with some party supplies so we got some black party streamers and some confetti.  We did a few tries with this where I had my assistant throw the confetti at them then tried having them throw it at themselves which is where we got the photo below which is a bit of a blooper because a few people have way too much confetti. Here’s a few single stand-alone portraits we did with a few members of the band. One last group photo.  We used this photo for one of their promos for an upcoming show, which that is also below so check it out!

Here’s some portraits from a local Washington DC Muay Thai and MMA fights that I got a chance to photograph the other week.  We wanted these photos after each fighter’s fight.  Luckily for them and the fight team (Team Disciple) all their fighters are pretty amazing and didn’t take too much damage.  Secretly I wanted a little be more bruising and cut up but I’m also happy they were safe because they were nothing but nice to me as I set up all my equipment in their dressing room while they warmed up before their fights. We wanted to shoot these portraits with a super shallow depth of field, an almost medium format look to the photos which added its on challenges to the shoot.  Shooting in a tight space, with fighters 5-10 minutes after their fights, still with a ton of adrenaline, making it hard for me to keep them perfectly in focus.

Last February I decided to go on an adventure to South America, specifically Chile and the driest place on earth, San Pedro de Atacama.  Getting to Atacama is a bit difficult so I can see why many people in the United States hasn’t been there or even heard about it. A flight to Panama, then to Santigo Chile, spend the night in the hotel and take the 6am flight out to the closes airport to San Pedro de Atacama, then catch a 2 hour ride to Atacama.  After doing that, I can see why this place isn’t a popular destination for US tourist.  Also Atacama is 3500-5000 meters high, which means, that just walking 50 yards will leave you breathing heavy and just standing still will give most people headaches. Here’s some of the pictures which were taken at Vally of the Moon.   Here’s  a few photos from Santiago

I got the opportunity to shoot a few editorial photos at the new restaurant Hummingbird in Old Town Alexandria.  Hummingbird is the newest restaurant for the Eat Good Food Group and is connected to Old Town’s newest hotel, Hotel Indigo.  We wanted to show off the restaurant bar and if you know anything about Eat Good Food Group and their speakeasy PX, they make good cocktails!  Here’s a few of the pictures from the shoot.   Here’s a few pictures of the lovely space.   Lots of windows overlooking the water!
